Book reviews are a great way for self-publishing authors to gain exposure. After all, how can someone buy your book if he or she doesn’t know it exists? Paired with other elements of your book promotion strategy, requesting reviews is a great way to get people talking about what you’ve written.
When we read good reviews, we definitely like to share them. It gives the author a few (permanent) moments of fame and allows us to let the community know about a great book. Here’s this month’s featured book review:

Leapers, Redfins, Kiuri’Ner…it really reads like another world!
There are very few authors that write well enough to make me pull out my cellphone (Kindle Reader App) at every opportunity just to read what happens next in a story, even if it’s just a paragraph or two that I get to. Brett Vonsik’s first two books in Primeval Origins certainly did.
The story opens at a current-day (or nearly so) dig site, and presents an agitated, semi-bored heroine, Nikki, groaning over her current situation, both her lack of coffee and her lot in life. It quickly turns to excitement at a strange discovery, and moves rapidly to a historical, magical world filled with leapers, redfins, Kiuri’Ner, and other creatures, titles, and names that have no meaning to the reader; but, through the description of their actions, hint at historical beasts and classes of individuals and communities. There’re just enough unique names that the reader truly feels transported to another world. Most writers describe places familiar to the reader, and miss the opportunity, through the use of unknown words, descriptions and concepts, to make the reader feel immersed in a new place, struggling to learn the language, culture and conventions of the land. Brett Vonsik does it masterfully throughout the story, and it’s what makes Primeval Origins stand above the rest.
I look forward to the third book, and continuing the story of Nikki, Rogaan, Aren, and all the characters in a world rich in color and detail. Good luck, Brett, and write quickly!
With Jurassic World reminding us how awesome dinosaurs can be who doesn’t want some more prehistoric horror in their lives? Bredd Vonsik answers that call and delivers us Primeval Origins: Paths of Anguish which is the first in the Primeval Origins series. History as we know it is a bit off as religion, aliens, dinosaurs, and more are fit together to give us quite a different tale than were used to.
In the novel we follow Nikki Ricks as she is out on a dig that has found an entirely new dinosaur species. Only, with the dinosaurs come hints at technology that is beyond where it should be and that shouldn’t even exist when dinosaurs walked the Earth as mankind hadn’t even been born yet.
Unless all of the history books are wrong.
Nikki blacks out and when she comes to she is suddenly viewing the world through the eyes of Rogaan who lives in the Cretaceous period. History and life as we know it are suddenly vastly different.
Part coming of age, part action, part suspense, all over a good read!
