I read an interesting post on this site regarding Amazon’s BXGY program. I’m sent the nomination form to Amazon many weeks ago and never got a response. All I ever receive is the standard auto-reply e-mail. It’s frustrating to say the least. I wanted to ask if you have any direct experience with this program? And do you know of any other way to contact Amazon regarding the marketing programs. Great blog. Thanks!

Have you come across self publishers that are more ‘green’ that is encourage you to use recycled paper, bamboo and other fibre for covers etc?

Ray – good question. Most self-publishers work through a set number of 3rd party on-demand printers which do have some design limitations at present compared to offset printing, although many do also offer lower cost offset printing as an option. The very nature of on-demand printing over offset printing can be seen as green. On-demand printing options offer partial post-consumer recycled paper options, and beyond that no books are printed that haven’t already sold. I know OP discusses this on their website: http://outskirtspress.com/about.html. A sad occurrence in the offset print world is that unsold pre-printed books are destroyed if they don’t sell on the retail market.

At my blog site I have written several commentaries on self publishing and my observation about hybrid models forming. You are welcome to repost them in your site, if you wish.
